ALPHA FOR PRISONS, BAHAMAS

The Alpha for Prison ministry began in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in 2007. Todate we have run two [2] successful courses and over 50 inmates have completed the course and graduated.

Several of the inmates have been released and are working and integrating nicely into the society.

Courses are continuing to run in Maximum Security, Medium Security and the Female Prison.

Since March 2008 we have been working closely with the Bahamas Christian Council to assist inmates being released.

Following are just a few of the testamonies from persons who completed the course while in prison:

During the duration of the Alpha Course the lecturers were men who devoted their time and efforts in sharing their love, not just in words but by example. First of all I would like to thank them for assisting in transforming my life.

Through the introduction of Nickey Gumble’s “Questions of Life”, I learned the real purpose of who Jesus is and why he died for me.
I was a quiet and self-centered person, who did not know what I was born to do. I was empty and void with no sense of direction. Nickey Gumble through the lecturers has tought me how accept Jesus into my life.   I’ve learned how much Jesus loves me and how I can love others. I feel complete and whole in Jesus. Now, I just want to serve him and win others for Christ. Thanks Alpha for changing my life.

I am happy that I decided to take part in the Alpha Course.
I realise that this time in prison allowed me time to learn more about God and to read my bible.
I enjoyed listening and wacthing Rev. Gumble as he explained how God loves us and wants us to make the right choices in life. I can say the Alpha Course has changed my way of thinking and how I intend to live my life when I am released.
I thank God for the lovely ladies that took the time to be with us.

Thanks be to God for allowing such wonderful perons like the Chaplain of the Prison, Canon Cox and, the Alpha for Prison Ministry Team.
God deserves all the glory, and honour for putting such a wonderful idea into the minds of men, not to look at inmates as outcasts, but people who need to be encouraged to improve themselves, spiritually, mentally and physically.
God has been doing wonders in the prison through; not only is He chaning the hearts and minds, but He is also changing behaviours.

I’ve seen many come an go, but it is marvellous when you some of the most hardened, not returning. So I thank God for the opportunity to get to know him better, through the Alpha Course.

Those are just a few of the sentiments and there are many more. If you have an interest in this ministry, you can assist us in various ways.
We need persons to become mentors for those being released and help them to find housing, employment and reunite with their families.
